Linking your Application Manager account to your USAJOBS account
Related topic: Apply for a job without using an account
Creating an account is easy and only takes a minute. You will be asked to make up a User Name and a password. Then you pick the question you want for your Secret Question and type in the answer to it, in case you ever forget your password. That's it!
Your User Name must be unique. It can be from 6-20 characters including A-Z, a-z, and/or 0-9. Spaces are not allowed. These symbols are not allowed:"#", "<" and ">".
Application Manager requires each applicant have a unique email address tied to their account. Application Manager uses your email address to send you your username and password if you forget it and hiring agencies will use this emial to send an acknowledgement letter when they receive your application and other correspondence about your Application Package.
At least one capital letter: A-Z
At least one lower case letter: a-z
At least one number: 0-9
At least one of these keyboard symbols: @ $ % & * + = ? { } [ ] : ”
These symbols cannot be used: # < > , ! ( )
Your password may not contain your user name or any part of your full name.
Sample password: 2BRNOT2b (this is at least eight characters long and incorporates three of the four characteristics allowed).
In this step, you will select a Secret Question that you want us to ask you if you forget your password and want to create a new one. After you select the question, you will enter the correct answer. If you later need to use the Secret Question because you have forgotten your password, the answer you provide must then exactly match the answer you give now -- this answer is case sensitive.
Things to consider as you select your Secret Question:
Personal information that you provide as part of your job applications in this system might be seen by anyone who can guess the answer to your Secret Question. If this matters to you, choose a question to which the answer cannot be guessed.
It is best to select a question to which the answer is not likely to change, is easily typed correctly, and that you can remember or easily look up when you need to.
These symbols are not allowed:"#", "<" and ">"..
If you were logged into an account at USAJOBS when you arrived at Application Manager, your Application Manager account will automatically link to your USAJOBS account. Then, in subsequent visits where you are already logged in at USAJOBS, you won't even be asked to log in for Application Manager.
Security and convenience are the top two reasons for creating and using an account in Application Manager.
Security: Your Social Security Number is not used for logging in, as in previous systems. You type your Social Security Number only when you are applying for your first job in Application Manager, and then never need to type it again, nor is it ever displayed in Application Manager.
Convenience: When you log in to your Application Manager account, you can do all these things for greater ease and convenience when you apply for jobs:
Follow a simple path from start to finish.
Track your progress on the checklist.
See at a glance the status of all your Application Packages for all the jobs for which you have applied in Application Manager.
View and print your supporting documents.
Update your answers without needing to start over at the beginning.
View and print questions and your answers.
Read copies of messages sent to you in response to your Application Package.
In the future, you will be able to store supporting documents in Application Manager so you can easily reuse them to apply for multiple positions -- coming soon!
If you type your password incorrectly too many times, you may be locked out of your account. If this occurs, you can solve this problem yourself by following these steps:
On the Application Manager Login page, click Forgot User Name or Password.
Reset your password in the second box. You will be asked to provide the answer to your Secret Question.
If this does not work, it is possible you do not actually have an Application Manager account. Application Manager was brand new on 1/27/2007, so any account you think you may have had before that date will not work. Also, Application Manager is a separate system from USAJOBS, so your USAJOBS account information is not going to work until you first create an Application Manager account.
